Training

The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts is located in the Agriculture Building at Stampede Park.

Spacious studios for ballet, tap, jazz, acro-dance and musical theatre as well as a vocal studio provide training space to the 175 annual students involved in the program from September through April.

The studio space is used for all classes throughout their training and in preparation for the numerous community appearances, Christmas Shows, Spring Show and initial preparations for the annual Grandstand Show at the Calgary Stampede

 TYC Studio Sepia

Students who are accepted into the training program receive training on an average of two weekday evenings, and one weekend day per week in dance (ballet, jazz, tap, acro-dance and gymnastics) and vocal and choral.

The Apprentice Division (students aged 11 to 14) attend training on Wednesday and Friday evenings and during the day on Saturdays.

The Senior Division (students aged 14 to 21) attend training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and during the day on Sundays.

Training is provided, tuition-free, for the Singers Program and the Dancers Program in all divisions to create a well-rounded and capable performer.

The Young Canadians is not a recreational performing arts program. You are being prepared to perform in the largest yearly production held in Canada! We are developing a quality cast for the Grandstand Show through quality training. In addition, if you are planning a future in the performing arts, this training will be invaluable to you. The Calgary Stampede Foundation is contributing a considerable amount of time, money and resources to your training at no cost to the student. In turn we expect your commitment as a Young Canadian cast member to be your #1 activity priority outside of your school academic studies. Sometimes it means choices of what you want to commit your time to. Though we have a basic class schedule, as we are preparing for our performances, additional time will be required for rehearsals.
