Casting / Audition Overview

All students in the Young Canadians Program audition annually to receive tuition free training through the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts, which is provided through the Calgary Stampede Foundation.

Participation in the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts is open to students between the ages of 7 and 20 from Calgary and the surrounding area. Students who are selected will show a strong desire to further develop their skills and performance abilities.

Students are grouped in the following ways:

The SENIOR Company consists of approximately 20 Female Singers, 20 Male Singers and 26 Female Dancers. All of these students are between the ages of 14 and 21. (Must be 14 by September 1st)

The APPRENTICE Company consists of approximately 16 Female Singers, 16 Male Singers and 16 Female Dancers. All of these students are between the ages of 11 and 14. (Must be 11 by September 1st)

The JUNIOR Company consists of approximately 16 Female Singers, 16 Male Singers and 16 Female Dancers. All of these students are between the ages of 7 and 11. Junior Dancers (aged 7-11), Junior Singers (aged 7-11)

Open auditions are held in June for the Apprentice and Senior level students. (Junior auditions are held annually in the spring, typically in February).

All candidates at the June 2010 auditions will receive:

a SPECIAL GUEST PASS to attend the 2010 Evening Grandstand Show Dress Rehearsal on Thursday, July 7, 2010

The individuals who are invited to move on to the 2nd part of the audition process will recieve: five days of cutting-edge TYC summer dance training with our prestigious dance teachers & choreographers, as well as vocal technique and training August 17-20.
(Attendance is mandatory to be considered for the YC program)

Then, once accepted into the 2010/2011 program, will receive tuition-free training provided by the Calgary Stampede Foundation, for one year of training in the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts (Sep ‘10—July ‘11).

Training may include: Vocal, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Acro-Dance, Gymnastics, Specialty training ... and much more! There is also an opportunity to be a part of the world famous cast in the 2011 Grandstand Show and numerous other performance opportunities.
